Thinking of reselling your clothes? Here are our top tips - whether you’re planning to resell a piece or want to make this a more regular habit:

1. Follow care instructions carefully

If a piece is labelled dry clean only, please don’t risk washing it yourself. While it might work occasionally, it’s not worth the chance of ruining something you intend to resell. Poor care can seriously affect the resale value, even if the damage seems minor.

2. Think about resale potential before you buy

This doesn’t have to dictate every purchase, but it’s helpful to consider. Some brands and pieces hold value better than others. Is it a colour or style with broad appeal? Is it from a recognisable label? These factors can make a big difference when it comes time to sell.

3. Be realistic with pricing

Unless it’s rare, sold out, or in high demand, most buyers will expect a significant discount from the RRP. A general guide is at least 50% off. That said, condition matters - items in excellent shape can fetch more, especially if you’re willing to wait for the right buyer.

4. Timing matters

If the item is still available in stores, you can usually ask a higher price - especially if it was bought for a one-off event. In that case, renting might be a better option! If you’re in a rush to sell, expect to price lower. But if you have time, you can hold out for the right buyer willing to pay closer to its true value.
